You could be paying $100 in subsidies to solar customers right now.

California has been a leader in sustainable energy.

But, while everyone uses the utility grid, including solar customers, only non-solar customers are paying more than they should. This is not fair.

Because of policies put in place 20 years ago, some working-class families, seniors, and renters are paying over $100 a year to subsidise the cost of solar energy distribution, even though they get none of the benefits.

And that number is expected to increase to $360 by 2025.

Solar customers are paid for the energy they produce. That is fair to them. But they should pay for the infrastructure they use. That is fair to everybody!

Dear CPUC,

While California has led America in growing clean energy technology, the cost of these programs has been placed on the very people who can’t afford it. As a result, low-income families, seniors, renters, and small businesses are subsidizing those who have the means to invest in new technologies.

Subsidies, like net energy metering, distort the true cost of energy and under the current program, leaves those who can afford it the least to foot the bill.

I urge you to require that all customers who use our energy infrastructure pay the necessary fees and charges so that other customers are not stuck with higher bills.

Sincerely,

Thank you! Your submission has been received!
